The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a nonprofit veteran's service organization made up of eligible veterans and military service members. The VFW works to support veterans, service members, their families, and local communities.

The mission of VFW Elwood Perkins Post 8336 is to support veterans, advocate for their earned benefits, promote patriotism, serve the Moapa Valley community, and preserve the history and sacrifices of America’s military members.

VFW Elwood Perkins Post 8336 serves Moapa Valley and the surrounding communities in Southern Nevada. Our address is 324 N. Whitmore St, Overton, NV 89040.

VFW membership is generally open to U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals who are currently serving or have served honorably in the United States Armed Forces and whose service meets the VFW’s eligibility requirements.

Eligibility may be established through qualifying overseas service, a campaign medal, hostile-fire or imminent-danger pay, or qualifying service in Korea. Contact Post 8336 if you would like help reviewing your eligibility.

Applicants may be asked to provide a copy of their DD Form 214, current military identification, military orders, pay records showing hostile-fire or imminent-danger pay, or other documents proving qualifying service.

Please remove or cover sensitive information, such as your Social Security number, before providing copies of personal military documents.

Not necessarily. VFW eligibility is based on qualifying service, not solely on whether a veteran personally participated in combat. A Post representative can help determine whether your military service qualifies.

Yes. Eligible active-duty, Reserve, and National Guard members may join if their service meets the VFW’s membership requirements.

You may still be able to begin the application process. Post 8336 can help explain what other documents may be accepted and how to request a replacement copy of your military records.

Membership provides opportunities to:

  • Build friendships with fellow veterans
  • Help veterans and military families
  • Participate in community-service projects
  • Learn about veterans’ benefits and resources
  • Support legislative advocacy for veterans
  • Attend Post meetings, programs, and social events
  • Mentor younger veterans and preserve military history
  • Continue serving the community after military service

Prospective members are welcome to contact us and learn more about the Post. Some portions of official business meetings may be limited to eligible VFW members, but we will gladly arrange an opportunity to meet Post representatives and ask questions.
